4 Things To Do at Your 4th of July BBQ!

4 Things To Do at Your 4th of July BBQ!

It’s 75 degrees and sunny. You have no work, the grill is on, beer cans are opening and everyone is dressed in Red, White & Blue. Yep, let freedom ring because that means it’s the 4th of July! A holiday to celebrate our Independence and enjoy well-earned time with our wonderful family and friends.  We thought we would give you all a few ideas to make that 4th of July BBQ extra fun!

Slip n Slide

One of the most fun things you can do with everyone! Escape the summer heat and keep the kids occupied all day. Things you need:

  • Tarp
  • Running Water
  • Soap ( non-burning soap, preferably)
  • Slide tubes!

Make themed cupcakes.

So, if an oven is available, then baking America themed cupcakes is something great and easy for everyone! Cupcakes can be initially made by one person but then everyone can get involved and decorate their own. Kids included:)  Theme it up, add an American flag, maybe some blue frosting or maybe some colorful sprinkles.

Sparkler Photography- (Light Painting)

For all of you photography enthusiasts, here is a really fun way to use those 4th of July sparklers. Light painting! “A photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure.” Do this with sparklers!

What you need:

  • Sparklers
  • DSLR camera or point- and – shoot camera
  • Tripod (preferable)
  • Friends (1 or more)

  1. Set the low shutter speed on your camera to achieve an extra long exposure time.
  2. Grab friends with sparklers.
  3. Have your group identify what drawing or words they’d like to make!
  4. Start drawing and snap the photo.
    • “Draw it as many times as you can while the shutter stays open. Drawing slowly creates a thicker sparkler line, while quicker drawing creates a thinner one.”

It may take a few tries but after a couple practice rounds, it gets really easy and more importantly, really fun!

4th of July Quiz!

Think you could be on Jeopordy? Think you’re smarter than the whole family? Or even your middle schooler? Well, time to find out. Create an American History-themed quiz for everyone to participate. (Maybe not the little kids) Include some prizes, like gift cards or movie passes to make the game a little more interesting.  If you don’t want to make your own quiz.
