National Dog Day is coming, and we have a few ideas in mind to help you celebrate! If you’re like us, you may be a bit surprised to learn that there even is a national day of celebration of your pooch − not that man’s best friend doesn’t deserve it! We also love that National Dog Day is scheduled right in the heart of the, “Dog Days of Summer.” Anyway, here’s a look at how to have fun with Fido this year! Professional Puppy Petter Celebrated on August 26 every year, the day is about more than just your love for your dog. It’s also meant as a way to promote adoption awareness. Spending today volunteering at a local shelter is a great way to love on all dogs, not just your own! Just be sure to call the shelter in advance to ensure that they’ll have something for you to do to help out. If nothing else, today is a great day to make a commitment to volunteer in the future. And who knows? Maybe you’ll find our perfect furry friend here on this very special day. Get Out There! Established in 2004, National Dog Day is all about showing your puppy pride. What better way to do it than a trip to your local dog park? Take some time away from your people friends and screens and head outside. Your dog will love playing fetch, running with you, or simply being outdoors. Search online for the best dog parks near you and get out there! Drop the Doggy Dollars Maybe you love dogs, but don’t have one to take out today. Maybe you’d love to volunteer at a shelter, but time or distance keeps you away. There is another great option. Consider making a donation to one of the many charities that rely on contributions in order to help animals. The ASPCA or your local Humane Society are great places to start. You can make a one-time donation online, or set up a recurring monthly donation. You can also call your local vet. Sometimes they have charitable accounts set up that will help other dog owners in the event of an unseen and costly injury or illness to their pet. Hog Dog! It’s Your Birthday! Can’t remember your dog’s actual birthday? Cool. Make it National Dog Day! Feel free to take your dog shopping at a local pet store to pick out a birthday snack and a new toy! Then when you get home, be sure to set aside time to play together and cuddle. Make the whole day like a birthday for your pet. Heck, you could even throw a party, inviting all of your dog’s K9 friends over for a BBQ. We know you’re taking a ton of photos of yourself with your pooch.
